Support to local clubs

The Society provides support to local clubs for blind and partially sighted people and a specialist social centre for the blind in Hemel Hempstead.

The clubs are spread over the whole County so there will be one near to you or to someone you know who would enjoy some fun and companionship. All provide valuable social contact and support to visually impaired people in their area.

Clubs are run and maintained via the tireless dedication of volunteers. They are always looking to add to their numbers, not only new members who are always welcome, but also people with a little time and kindness to spare to help run such a valuable service to an appreciative group of people. If you can help run a club, please give the club contact a call, their names are on the Clubs List shown below.

Doris Cutler

We have learned with deep regret of the death of Doris Cutler. Doris was well known to HSB for many years and she will be sadly missed for the many people she came into contact with over this time. She was an active champion for visually impaired people and, single handedly, despite her own serious sight problems, set up the 1066 Club for visually impaired people in Berkhamsted. The club was set up from a standing start and is now well established - those of you that have been involved in organising and running a club will understand that this was no mean feat. The club will be a lasting memorial to Doris, particularly as its running is staying ‘in the family’ as Doris’s niece, Mary Cutler, has taken it over. Mary can be contacted on 01727 870492.
