Tim and Suzina raise funds through a Sponsored Run.
One of our blind clients, Tim Seaton, and his trainer Suzina Williamson ran the Welwyn Garden City 10 mile run in September 2009 and raised a magnificent sum of £585.64 through sponsorship. This is a great effort and is also the second time that Tim and Suzina have raised money in this way for the Society. They both came into HSB’s new offices in Welwyn Garden City in February to find out about the Resource Centre there and we took the opportunity to present them with a certificate to thank them for their efforts on behalf of the Society. Thanks once again to you both! Tim and Suzina are pictured with HSB Chairman, Tony Bradburn.

Doris Cutler
We have learned with deep regret of the death of Doris Cutler. Doris was well known to HSB for many years and she will be sadly missed for the many people she came into contact with over this time. She was an active champion for visually impaired people and, single handedly, despite her own serious sight problems, set up the 1066 Club for visually impaired people in Berkhamsted. The club was set up from a standing start and is now well established - those of you that have been involved in organising and running a club will understand that this was no mean feat. The club will be a lasting memorial to Doris, particularly as its running is staying ‘in the family’ as Doris’s niece, Mary Cutler, has taken it over. Mary can be contacted on 01727 870492.
HSB has a new home!
As from week commencing 17 August 2009, we will be based in The Woodside Centre, The Commons, Welwyn Garden City, Herts, AL7 4SE. The new Sight Line number is 01707 324680 and our general e-mail address is office@hertsblind.com. We share the premises with the Hertfordshire Hearing Advisory Service and Hertfordshire Action on Disability, so access to a much wider range of equipment and information will be available. We are planning on having an event to celebrate moving into our new home and so that people can come and see where we are and look round the facilities. Keep an eye out for more details!
Clubs Coordinator
HSB is pleased to announce that it has secured funding for two years from the Lloyds TSB Foundation to support the appointment of a Clubs Coordinator. Christine Wheeler has been appointed to the post and will be supporting clubs in many ways, for instance helping to attract new members and helpers, identifing funding opportunities and with club activities – this list is not exhaustive! Christine will already be known to many of you and she is looking forward to meeting both old friends and many new ones.
